Following the recent Budget, NFU Isle of Wight has remained vocal and persistent in challenging the government’s proposed changes to Agricultural Property Relief. Despite little visible progress, the issue remains very much alive thanks to continued engagement with MPs, press and industry stakeholders.
County Chair Robyn Munt compares the situation to steering a tunnel-visioned toddler, noting that while the government’s position remains firm, NFU is working hard to present constructive alternatives. The team is calling for a pause and proper consultation to assess the impact and identify solutions that don’t cause widespread disruption.
The campaign is gaining traction, with support from economists and allied industries. Farmers are encouraged to use NFU’s templates to contact MPs and share real-life case studies to strengthen the message. A national banner campaign and a presence at the LAMMA show aim to keep the issue in the public eye.
Robyn expressed pride in NFU’s lobbying efforts and gratitude to members who joined the mass lobby in London. With Island MPs showing support, the NFU will continue to hold them accountable and fight for a sustainable future for British farming.
As ever, the NFU Isle of Wight team is here to support members through these challenging times.
