The Isle of Wight NFU County AGM took place this month with a strong turnout of members keen to reflect on the past year and look ahead to what’s next.
Members welcomed new county adviser Tom Peters and current county chair Robyn Munt confirmed she will continue in her role for a final two-year term. A highlight of the evening was a talk from Hampshire and Isle of Wight fireman and farmer Matt Horne, who introduced a new training module designed for the farming sector, launching in 2025.
The event also celebrated achievements with two special awards. The Environment and Conservation Award was given posthumously to David Harvey, recognising his exceptional habitat creation and land management. The Outram Award went to Matt Legge for his long-standing contributions to Island farming, including his support for Young Farmers, livestock events and charitable agricultural activities.
Amidst ongoing uncertainty in the sector, local accountant Esme Shakeshaft encouraged calm, informed decision-making and open dialogue. Robyn Munt closed with a reminder of the industry’s strength in resilience and community, urging members to reach out and support one another.
