With the summer show season in full swing, it’s been a pleasure to get out and about across the region, supporting County teams and engaging with members, MPs and ministers. Agricultural shows continue to be a vital platform for showcasing our industry, sharing our stories and connecting with the public.
We’re especially excited to be at the Royal Isle of Wight Agricultural Show this year with our newly refurbished trailer—come and find us! We’ll be helping members write to their MPs about the critical issues of farm tax and food security. Inheritance tax (IHT) changes are having a real impact on farming families and the wider rural economy and it’s essential that our MPs hear directly from you. If you need support, visit us at the show or the upcoming Ploughing Match.
Rural crime was another key topic at this year’s summer reception. While NFU Mutual’s report shows a 16% national decline in rural crime costs, we must remain vigilant. On the Island, dog worrying continues to be a costly and disruptive issue. We encourage all members to sign up for the Hants & IOW Constabulary DISC system to stay informed and report incidents directly.
Finally, a big thank you to everyone who attended our recent pre-harvest health and safety event, hosted by J Knox. These free sessions offer practical advice and legislative updates and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Farm safety is not just a legal requirement—it’s a business investment. Let’s all commit to a safe and productive harvest season.
Stay safe, stay connected and see you at the next farming event!
