We were proud to represent the Isle of Wight’s food and farming community at the national Day of Unity in St Thomas’ Square. Alongside rallying support for our petition and discussing key farming issues, we promoted British and Island-produced goods—encouraging consumers to make mindful choices that back local agriculture.
A heartfelt thank you to all members who took part. Your time and presence made a real difference and the public response was overwhelmingly positive. That show of community support is vital as we push for political change.
Following the event, a motion has been submitted to the IW Council asking them to back local farmers, challenge recent tax proposals, and commit to collaborative efforts for a stronger farming future.
Our campaign continues with upcoming MP farm visits to raise concerns around IHT and broader farming issues. If you’d like to host a future meeting, please get in touch.
Work also continues to address the impacts of Turner’s abattoir closure, advocating for the survival of small abattoirs essential to our local food supply. A recent feature on South Today helped bring attention to the issue ahead of planned changes to abattoir charges.
Finally, we extend thanks to Mel Squires for her dedication as Regional Director and wish her well in her new HQ role. We also warmly welcome Tom Rabbets and look forward to seeing him on the Island soon.
